Abstract:

The research aims to identify the types of vegetation surrounding the Oel'Kunion spring in Tun'noe Village, North Central Timor Regency, and assess their impact on water availability at the spring and conducted from May to August 2023.  The study employed the quadratic method, utilizing eight plots along observation transects at the spring. Data on vegetation were collected, including information on tree growth forms, poles, saplings, and seedlings. Results revealed a total of 23 species comprising 99 individuals of tree growth, 107 individuals of pole growth, 99 individuals of sapling growth, and 575 individuals of seedling growth around the Oel'Kunion spring. Analysis indicated Syzygium aqueam as the tree species with the highest Important Value Index (INP) at 133.72%, while Areca catechu ranked highest for poles (222.81%), saplings (187.73%), and seedlings (79.7%). The Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index fell within the medium category, while the Evenness Index was high, and the Dominance Index was low. The vegetation surrounding the Oel'Kunion spring plays a crucial role in sustaining the spring and ensuring water availability in the area, underscoring the need for conservation efforts to protect this vital ecosystem.
